RoostDASH Privacy Policy

RoostDASH is a companion app for Plex. It connects to your Plex account so you can browse the libraries other people have shared with you, and exchange requests, issues, and announcements with the people who run those servers.
This policy explains exactly what data the app touches and where it goes. The short version: we collect only what the app needs to do those two jobs, we run no analytics or advertising, and we never sell your data or track you across other apps and websites.
Who we are
RoostDASH is developed by Tacker Cochrane (James Cochrane), an independent developer. Questions about this policy or your data can be sent to tackercochrane@icloud.com.
Information the app handles
When you sign in with Plex, the app accesses the following from your Plex account, via Plex's own sign-in flow:
- Your Plex profile — your Plex user ID, username, display name, and email address. This identifies you within the app and labels the messages you send.
- The servers shared with you, and the servers you own — so the app can show the right libraries and route messages to the right people.
- Library metadata — titles, cover art, and details of the media on servers you already have access to. The app only reads metadata; it never plays, downloads, or streams media.
When you use the app, it also handles:
- Messages, requests, issues, and announcements you create — the text, any title you attach, the time sent, and your display name and Plex identity — so they can be delivered to the other person.
- A notification token — a device-specific token used only to deliver push notifications to you.
- Search terms — when you search for a title to request, the text you type is sent to The Movie Database (TMDb) to return matching results.
Where your data is stored
Your Plex authentication token is stored securely in your device's Keychain and is used only to talk to Plex on your behalf. It is never sent to our servers.
Messages, requests, announcements, your notification token, and your Plex identity are stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore), which acts as the app's backend so content can be delivered between you and the server owners you interact with. A cached copy of library lists and your layout preferences is kept on your device for speed.
Third-party services
RoostDASH relies on a small number of services strictly to function:
- Plex — authentication and access to the libraries and account details above.
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Messaging) — the backend that stores and delivers messages, requests, and notifications.
- The Movie Database (TMDb) — receives the search terms you enter when requesting a title, and returns matching results and artwork. This product uses the TMDb API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDb.
- Apple Push Notification service — delivers notifications to your device.
What we do not do
RoostDASH contains no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. Firebase Analytics is disabled. We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), we do not build a profile of you, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell or rent your data to anyone.
Retention and your controls
- Sign out at any time — this disconnects your Plex account, clears the app's local data, and removes your notification token so you stop receiving pushes.
- Delete messages and requests you've created from within the app.
- The app only ever shows content from Plex servers you already have access to; it does not expose anything you couldn't already see in Plex.
To request deletion of any content associated with your Plex identity from the backend, contact us at the address above.
Children
RoostDASH is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
